Dr. Gilbert Govan was director of the library at the University of Chattanooga (1934-1962). He was also a prominent local historian who published a couple of books about Chattanooga and area histories. James Livingood (1910-2005) was a member of the University of Chattanooga history faculty from 1937 to 1975. He served as dean of the College of Arts and Sciences 1937-1966, then as dean of the university 1966-1969. He was recognized with the designation Guerry Professor of History, the highest award for faculty achievement at UC. Livingood was born in Birdsboro, PA.
